JIACOFE HOME

Children are more likely to be healthy and educated when their families are not worried about where the next meal, hospital bill, school dues, shelter, cloth will come from. Families need support to grow and be able to meet their financial obligations for their children to thrive. To prevent children from dropping out of school and to improve their well-being, households must have an economic activity from which they earn a living on a daily basis.

In light of the above assertion, JIACOFE supports vulnerable families and communities to improve their existing economic enterprises to increase their resilience to economic shocks and social stresses that may arise from community demands and emergencies. Based on needs assessments, we design and implement an integrated, transformative economic strengthening project that builds on existing business initiatives to address a continuum of needs around the home. We educate caregivers on financial literacy, group dynamics and micro business enterprise management. To encourage self-reliant communities, village savings and loans association (VSLA) groups are developed in JIACOFE supported communities to encourage proper savings and increase economic possibilities. In addition, we provide cash transfers and in-kind start up grants to needy families for income generation. Using this model, many vulnerable households have transformed from being destitute, struggling to growing households with sustainable livelihoods.
